Rico Vest.. Well there’s a well known name for you.
Yesterday I heard her son is named Cain. At first I didn’t think too much of it, but as I returned to the Inn I suddenly remembered something.
Rico’s father carried the same name, Cain.
You might think ‘Well so what?’, but that’s only because you are still new here.
So sit down, have a drink and I’ll bring you up to speed.
Here on Sollendeim you will find Freelanders, but within the history of the humankind that’s fairly new. The Freelanders travel the world in groups, following prey and the seasons, really. Like the born hunters they are.
But Sollendeim was never really big enough for any of these groups to co exist with the natives, so they stayed clear of it.
Well that changed about 28 years ago.
One of these groups was travelling from one continent to another, as they always did when the seasons changed. It took three big ships to carry both the people and their wagons.
Their leader at the time was Cain Vest, or as they say ‘the moon-blessed’.
The Moon-blessed is said to get guidance directly from the moons themselves, and as you know. The Moons do see far and wide.
What you may not know yet is that the winds died down, and the Freelanders found themselves trapped on the Valcan ocean for two weeks, and as they say, ‘bad luck rarely walks alone’.
When the winds returned, they returned with all they got. A few days after the ships had begun moving again they hit a terrible storm. The ships didn’t make it, and neither did most of the Freelanders. Cain made it, and so did Rico. Remember back then she was a fully grown woman, and from what I hear, already showing her strength when needed.
Those who did make it found themselves on some of Sollendeim’s smaller islands. It seemed that those left began to question if the moon-blessed had somehow upset the moons.
Cain manged to gather the others once again, and they found their way to Sollendeim itself.
For a year or so he managed to keep them together. Rebuilding what they had lost.
But, when another disaster hit, there was a uprising.. the elders overruled the title of the moon-blessed.
Cain was renamed the moon-cursed, and exiled.
Rico soon after left the Freelanders and joined the Reapers. I can only image how the daughter of the moon-cursed must have felt.
Cain, the moon-cursed, died alone within the thousand-spikes-mountain.
Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
Why would the daughter of the moon-cursed give her son such a cursed name?
